Some reflections from Inquiry Teams on their journey with assessment in 2021-22

"We are making small but positive steps. Parent involvement has increased however parents still struggle with what kind of feedback they should provide. We encourage meaningful feedback using sentence starters for parents. “I’m proud of you because…. ÌýWhat were you thinking when….â€
Students are beginning to talk about their work with their peers and parents.Ìý Improving student responsibility for their learning by having them show parents the posts they create."

"We continue to work towards growth. There still needs to be more of a cohesive relationship between student, teacher and home through consistent communication.Ìý

We are proud of the growth the students are making in their ability to set goals, reflect and act responsibility to make change. We see this in their portfolio posts, and ability to talk about their learning in a manner the is reflective of the journey not just the end product."

"Students regularly use language to describe their learning that is based in the CSL project (e.g. evidence, proficiency scale, learning map, growth, etc). The majority of teachers at the grade 8-9 level in our school use proficiency-based assessment in their classes and it is now the norm for students, while letter grades/percentages are the outlier."
