Connection with Indigenous learning opportunities helps Indigenous Learners to build relationships with the Elders and staff who come to teach. These relationships reinforce (or introduce, in some cases) traditional knowledge, and support a growing sense of identity for the learners. We know that all of these factors play important roles for Indigenous children and youth. Having a dedicated space communicates the importance of this process and facilitates the many opportunities, which this year include cedar weaving, pine needle work, drum making, and traditional drumming and singing.
